"I have witnessed first hand the current food allergy epidemic. A large part of our practice is devoted to food allergy in young children. It is not unusual to see 5-6 food allergy patients in a given day compared to 1-2 food allergy patients in a week 10 years ago. Food allergy support groups are an essential part of successful food allergy management. We are in debt to the tireless efforts of the nationwide group the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN). Their work has been vital to help increase food allergy awareness, research, education, and legislation."

"I feel very fortunate to be practicing in Austin. I grew up here and suffered from asthma and allergy when there were many fewer medicines and treatment options. It is gratifying to be able to improve patient's health and quality of life with all the new procedures and medicines now available. Even though Austin is 'the allergy capitol of the world', with proper treatment most people can feel fine and really enjoy all the wonderful things about Central Texas."
Dr. Howland is married and has two adult children. In addition to practicing medicine he plays in a local Rock and Roll Band and enjoys the local music scene.
